As PTFC move into the new year to face, not only all of the challenges of the current season and those relating to ground improvements imposed by the FA, but also significant team management changes outside of the first team.
Within the last four weeks reserve team manager Pete Osment and fourth team manager Dave Read have decided to resign from their positions - each for their own reasons and reluctantly both resignations have been accepted.
I am sure that all those that know and have played for both Pete and Dave will realise that their decisions will not have been easy one’s and their input to match days and training nights will be greatly missed.
I speak for the committee and players when I thank both men for all their hard work and endeavours over the years and acknowledge their individual successes with both players and teams.
These resignations have inevitably lead to changes within the club and I am pleased to confirm the following changes which have either taken place or will do with immediate effect.
Firsts – Dave Willis supported by Kev “Blower” Walker continue with the first team in the higher echelons of the Tool Station Western League and to a busy second half of the season following recent cancellations.
Reserves - Rod Pooley has been appointed reserve team manager and has already taken on his first game. Rod will work closely with first team manager Dave Willis in our pursuit of a strong league position and player development. I know Rod together with the quality support from Leighton McCarthy will bring a great fun and competitive atmosphere not only into the change rooms but also onto the pitch.
Thirds – Chris Bridge has accepted the opportunity to replace Rod and will bring his enthusiasm and energy to this very important “development” side. He too will work closely with Dave and Rod to make sure opportunities for performing players are identified and applied.
Fourths – also stepping up a level is John Gradwell who has established himself as a very successful manager over the last 2 years with strong team spirit and determination. The fourth team are languishing in the lower levels of the division so it’s a tough move for John but he relishes the challenge.
Fifths – Jordan Marlowe has volunteered his services as a first time manager to the Fifths and we are extremely pleased to welcome Jordan on board the management team knowing that he will do all in his powers to pick up Johns current success and push the team toward promotion.
Under 18’s – No change with our youth team where Barry Probert will continue through what promises to be a very busy end of season run.
These types of changes are never easy to apply but with positive commitment from the players and the committee they can be made to be very effective, motivating and successful.
In closing I firstly thank all of the PTFC players in anticipation of their full support to our managers and the new management team and also to Dave, Rod, Chris, John, Jordan and their assistants for taking on the challenges.
Good luck to all,
Bob Parsons
